Algebraic structural analysis of a vehicle routing problem of heterogeneous trucks. Identification of the properties allowing an exact approach.
Although integer linear programming problems are typically difficult to solve, there exist some easier problems, where the linear programming relaxation is integer.
This thesis sheds light on a drayage problem which is supposed to have this nice feature, after extensive computational experiments.
This thesis aims to provide a theoretical understanding of these results by the analysis of the algebraic structures of the mathematical formulation.
Three reformulations are presented to prove if the constraint matrix is totally unimodular. We will show which experimental conditions are necessary and sufficient (or only sufficient or only necessary) for total unimodularity
A short guide to post-editing (Volume 16)
Artificial intelligence is changing and will continue to change the world we live in. These changes are also influencing the translation market. Machine translation (MT) systems automatically transfer one language to another within seconds. However, MT systems are very often still not capable of producing perfect translations. To achieve high quality translations, the MT output first has to be corrected by a professional translator. This procedure is called post-editing (PE). PE has become an established task on the professional translation market. The aim of this text book is to provide basic knowledge about the most relevant topics in professional PE. The text book comprises ten chapters on both theoretical and practical aspects including topics like MT approaches and development, guidelines, integration into CAT tools, risks in PE, data security, practical decisions in the PE process, competences for PE, and new job profiles
The public accessibility and comprehension of scientific aims and results fundamentally influences the social acceptability and receptiveness of research. The contents of up-to-date research in the (natural) sciences are, however, not easily accessible to a lay audience because of many interfering factors. Aiming at the optimization of scientific publications in German print and online media, we investigate and validate present-day popular science discourse within our project PopSci – Understanding Science. For this purpose, stylistic features of German popular-science writing are identified through corpus-based research and their effects on the lay reader’s processing of these texts are measured experimentally.
Empty links and crossing lines
Translation shifts can be informative in various ways. Amongst other things, they can point to typological differences between languages or be indicators of properties of translated text like explicitation or normalisation. Detecting translation shifts in parallel corpora is thus a major task from the viewpoint of translation studies. This paper presents an analysis of translation shifts in a parallel corpus (English-German). It offers an operationalisation of queries which can exploit multi-layer annotation and alignment in order to detect various kinds of translation shifts across category boundary lines and empty alignment links. The paper furthermore discusses the shifts and links them to certain translation properties
Translation proper: Kommunikationsbarrieren ĂĽberwinden
Applicability of the ISO 17100 to intralingual translation into Easy and Plain Language
Nach dem aktuellen Stand des
Behindertengleichstellungsgesetzes (BGG, 2018) sollen
According to the current status of the Act on
Equal Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities
(Behindertengleichstellungsgesetz, BGG, 2018), texts
should be accessible in Easy and Plain Language. These
activities are considered as intralingual translation,
which in turn is part of communicative accessibility.
Against this background, the question arises to what
extent instruments and processes of quality assurance
and optimization, which are established for interlingual
translation, can be adapted to intralingual translation into
Easy and Plain Language. In this article, we address this
question in particular in view of the ISO 17100, which
defines the standard procedures for translation service
providers and translation quality through process quality
Annotation, exploitation and evaluation of parallel corpora: TC3 I
Exchange between the translation studies and the computational linguistics communities has traditionally not been very intense. Among other things, this is reflected by the different views on parallel corpora. While computational linguistics does not always strictly pay attention to the translation direction (e.g. when translation rules are extracted from (sub)corpora which actually only consist of translations), translation studies are amongst other things concerned with exactly comparing source and target texts (e.g. to draw conclusions on interference and standardization effects). However, there has recently been more exchange between the two fields – especially when it comes to the annotation of parallel corpora. This special issue brings together the different research perspectives. Its contributions show – from both perspectives – how the communities have come to interact in recent years
